20 WhatsApp review request templates for South African businesses
The wording matters less than people think. What matters is asking on WhatsApp, within a few hours of a good experience, with a direct link that opens the five-star box straight away. Grab that link first with the free review link generator, then use any of these. Swap in your own business name and keep it short: nobody reads a paragraph on WhatsApp.
Three rules before you send anything
- Only message customers who gave you their number for this. Honour opt-outs immediately, that's POPIA.
- Ask everyone, not just the customers you think are happy. Google calls picking your reviewers "review gating" and can suspend your listing for it.
- Never offer a discount or freebie in exchange for a review. Send from a WhatsApp Business number, not your personal one.
Hair & beauty salons
Dentists & medical practices
Mechanics & auto services
Restaurants & coffee shops
Guesthouses & B&Bs
Plumbers, electricians & home services
A gentle follow-up (send once, a day or two later, only to non-responders)
One follow-up is fine. Two starts to feel like nagging, and a customer who ignored it twice isn't going to review you on the third try.
Turning this into a poster instead
For walk-in businesses, print your link as a QR code with the free QR code maker and put it next to the card machine. It catches the customers standing right there; WhatsApp catches everyone else.
