How to reply to a mixed 3-star guesthouse review
The guesthouse 3-star usually lists one real fixable (Wi-Fi, mattress, water pressure) wrapped in compliments. Fix the fixable, say so, and thank them for the map to your own blind spots. Future guests care less about the flaw than about whether the hosts respond like adults.
Reply 1 · Wi-Fi/practical fix
Hi Daniel, thank you — delighted the braai evenings and breakfasts landed well. You're right about the Wi-Fi in the garden rooms; fibre reached our street last month and every room now has strong signal. Come test it yourself. — Elmarie & Pieter
Reply 2 · Comfort feedback (beds, noise)
Thank you for the balanced review, Daniel. The mattress note went straight onto the winter to-do list — two rooms have already been refitted. We're glad the rest of the stay felt like home; that's the bit we can't buy at Makro. — [Guesthouse]
Reply 3 · Gracious, small thing not fixable
Hi Daniel, thanks for the kind words and the honesty. The early farm sounds next door are the one thing we can't renovate away — we've started mentioning it upfront and stocking earplugs at the bedside, city guests for the use of. We'd love to host you again. — [Hosts]
Before you hit reply
- Report the fix with a date or detail ('fibre arrived last month') — specifics are believable
- If it can't be fixed, show you now disclose it upfront; honesty converts travellers
- Humour lands well in guesthouse replies; corporate polish doesn't
- Add the fixed item to your listing photos/description too — the review pointed at a gap
